Spent last evening at the closing show of Invert by Tangle Movement Arts at The Rotunda in Philadelphia. It was a great show, we will be posting a fair amount of shots in the upcoming days. Many thanks to Lauren Rile Smith for making it possible for me to attend.

We had an amazing time performing Invert! at the Rotunda! Thank you so much to Juan and Philadelphia Dance Photo Project for these lovely photos. I especially love the shot of my duo rope performance!

Our friend and incredible photographer Mike Ermilio took these photos of Invert! in rehearsal at The Rotunda in West Philly. That 1500-lb cast-iron chandelier in the foreground makes a nice contrast to our 200-lb aluminum rig!

Our Sunday afternoon in one minute— check out this time-lapse video of Tangle and friends putting up our aerial rig inside The Rotunda! Our new show Invert! is May 16-18.

I’m triple-excited about Tangle’s new show— Invert! combines vertical flirtation, glittery sequins, feminist history, and a cordless power drill for all-new evening of aerial dance theater by Tangle Movement Arts.

Tangle’s seven-woman cast travels through simmering duets, a torch-song trapeze solo, a celebration of campy drag traditions, and a tribute to Rosie the Riveter complete with on-stage power tools. Tangle’s kaleidoscope of bodies merge, fall apart, and climb to the Rotunda’s 40-foot ceilings, interspersed with tango solos by Julliard violinist Caeli Smith. At The Rotunda in West Philadelphia May 16-18!

April 6, 2013: Miracle Ice Cream, Adrienne Rich

april-is:

Miracle Ice Cream
Adrienne Rich

Miracle’s truck comes down the little avenue,
Scott Joplin ragtime strewn behind it like pearls,
and, yes, you can feel happy
with one piece of your heart.

Take what’s still given: in a room’s rich shadow
a woman’s breasts swinging lightly as she bends.
Early now the pearl of dusk dissolves.
Late, you sit weighing the evening news,
fast-food miracles, ghostly revolutions,
the rest of your heart.

UNFORTUNATELY, my shoulder is still too painful to train aerials. FORTUNATELY, I have stars in my eyes about my wonderful physical therapist. UNFORTUNATELY, my health insurance won’t chip in for it at all, so I have to stop. FORTUNATELY, my health insurance is changing soon. ALSO FORTUNATELY, I’m eating pancakes right now.
